Honoring 'Satellite Man of India'; Google's special doodle
Google's doodle is always different. Google has a
special doodle on every important day. The word Google was chosen as the most
used word by the American Dialect Society in 2002. Four years later, the word
was added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Google Doodle on Wednesday
celebrated the 89th birthday of renowned Indian professor and scientist Udupi
Ramchandra Rao, popularly known as "India's Satellite Man".
The doodle has a sketch of Professor Rao holding a
satellite in his right hand and a picture of space and earth behind him.
"Advances in our galaxy technology are still being felt in the Milky Way
galaxy," Google wrote in its description.
Rao, an Indian astronaut and president of the
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), oversaw the launch of India's first
satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975. "Prof. Rao was born on March 10, 1932 in a
remote village in Karnataka. He started his career as a global radiologist.
After completing his doctorate, Prof. Rao went to the United States, where he
worked as a professor and also on NASA's Pioneer and Explorer Space Probe
Worked, "the description on Google Doodle's website reads.
Rao was inducted into the Satellite
Hall of Fame in 2013, the same year PSLV launched India's first interstellar
project, Mangalyaan, orbiting Mars. He passed away in 2017.
